El árbol de las tentaciones (The tree of temptations)

Until now, readers only knew Andahazi the novelist. This book reveals a new aspect of the author who has the strongest personality and who is the more decided one of Argentinean contemporary writers: he is also a short story teller. The three stories narrated in this book maintain many and secret relations among them that the reader will decode and enjoy while reading. From their symmetrical beginnings to their historical scenes, the stories are situated in Argentina of 1800 and narrated by the same and unmistakable voice. 
The stories are characterized by a mysterious strength that comes up from the deeper side of some of the characters. Mysterious and fascinating women like “the gringa” in El sueño de los justos, Crescencia Castañeda in Almas misericordiosas, or “the polish woman” in La brújula invertida. Patiently build scenes in which violence and eroticism walk together the same path. Andahazi leads us to a world where innate impulses and instincts are strongly present and, at the same time, he never stops remembering us we are only bodies that fight, have pleasure and die.
